Square Enix Ships 1 Million Copies of Final Fantasy XIII

With stores ready for the launch of Final Fantasy XIII in four days, Square Enix has released the data for their first shipment of the game. They've shipped 1 million copies to stores around Japan and are planning on shipping another 150k on the 17th followed by 150k by the end of next week. That brings the total shipment for the first week to 1.3 million.

To put that into perspective, Final Fantasy XII shipped over 2 million copies before release. Of course that was because the Playstation 2 had a much larger install base at the time.

Story
Cocoon — a utopia in the sky. Its inhabitants believed their world a paradise.
Under the Sanctum's rule, Cocoon had long known peace and prosperity.
Mankind was blessed by its protectors, the benevolent fal'Cie, and believed that tranquil days would
continue forever.
Their tranquility was shattered with the discovery of one hostile fal'Cie.
The moment that fal'Cie from Pulse — the feared and detested lowerworld — awoke from its slumber,
peace on Cocoon came to an end.
Fal'Cie curse humans, turning them into magic-wielding servants.
They become l'Cie — chosen of the fal'Cie.
Those branded with the mark of a l'Cie carry the burden of either fulfilling their Focus or facing a fate
harsher than death itself.
A prayer for redemption.
A wish to protect the world.
A promise to challenge destiny.
After thirteen days of fates intertwined, the battle begins.

    ========The new world & characters========

    Two Worlds Segregated

    Cocoon (0:05)
    Cocoon is what a powerful self-aware Crystal in Pulse believed to be the best environment for humans, and so it created it, the floating city of Cocoon. The city is highly advanced, and maintained by the Crystal that created it. At some point in Final Fantasy XIII, the government becomes paranoid of any influence from Pulse and forces out anyone suspected of harboring any.

    Pulse (0:09)
    What is believed to be the world in which Final Fantasy XIII takes place is known as Pulse. At the time no other planets are none of, but FFXIII may very well have more than one, it is unknown right now. Nonetheless, the world of Pulse is thought to be mostly a wilderness, with little to no cities, inhabited by beasts and monsters. There are people in Pulse, with the Pigs Tailed Girl known to be one of them.

    Square Enix has said that the Final Fantasy XIII starts off with the people of Pulse being fed up with Cocoon; thus, they invade Cocoon, with Lightning leading the charge.

    Pigtails Girl in new pose (0:18)

    Summons Carbuncle & Shiva again (0:23)

    Captains & Headlock Master from the Leather Vest Team (Guards of the Prince "Storm) (0:31)

    ===============Attention================ ==

    Unknown Man or the palace of the princes family? (0:44)
    This man seems to have similar eyes to the Prince, and is also seen at the head of a very large table of an even larger room. Rumor is he is the current king of the land.

    New magic or a kinda of summon spell? (0:53)

    Robed Man - Rufus, but standing (1:11)
    Like most of the other characters, there's just about nothing to report on this guy, other than that we've seen him in a few places. He's also seen attacking the Prince with some potent magic.

    Last but not least Storm with his awesome headstyle xD (1:20)
